Energy efficiency is defined as the use of less energy to perform the same task or to produce the same result. The benefits of efficient energy are numerous and include saving consumers money, saving the environment, improving competitiveness for US businesses, improving the operation of the electric grid, aiding underserved customers in rural communities, and helping improve health through the elimination or reduction of greenhouse gasses and other pollutants.
