Pearland is located in Brazoria County Texas. Small portions of the city also exist in Fort Bend County as well as Harris County. Pearland is a principal city within the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area. It was also the 15th-fastest growing city in the United States with a 142% growth rate from 2000 to 2010. Pearland is bordered by Houston and Brookside Village to the north and Manvel to the south.
Pearland’s history began with its location on the Gulf Railway, Colorado Railway, and Santa Fe Railway in 1882. When it was established in 1893 with a post office, it was originally named, Mark Belt, before changing to Pear-Land in 1894. It was later changed to Pearland as a representation of the many fruits harvested by local residents.
83% of Pearland’s area is made up of residential neighborhoods, resulting in its high population. In 2020, its population was 125,828, a rise from the 2010 Census of 91,252 residents. Today, it is estimated that over 130,000 people reside within the city. Furthermore, it has a typically higher median household income of $104,504, determined between 2015 to 2019. During that time, the per capita income was $42,211. Roughly 3.5% of the local Pearland population lived at or below the poverty line. The population density as of 2010 was 1,940.9 people per square mile.
Pearland has many residents and as a result, it has become a large hub for medical-based companies. Some of them include the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, the medical manufacturing company, Cardiovascular Systems, and Merit Medical Systems. Other large employers in Pearland include the Pearland Independent School District, City of Pearland, Lonza Group, Dover Corporation, and Third Coast Chemicals.
Culture & Recreation
Pearland includes many retailers at its vast Pearland Town Center, including many restaurants. Other large centers include Shadow Creek Town Center, The Spectrum District, and the Silverlake Village Shopping Center. These large centers provide entertainment, banking solutions, movie theaters, and other local establishments of interest for Pearland residents. The city also has a large Town Center, Shadow Creek Ranch as well as the Pearland Public Library for public use.
