Pflugerville is part of the Austin-Round Rock-San Maros Metropolitan Statistical Area with the majority of the city sitting in Travis County and a small portion in Williamson County. It is a 25.57 square mile area located 15 miles north of the Colorado River and on the eastern edge of the Blackland prairies. Pfluger means plowman in German and because early German settlers farmed the land it seemed appropriate to name it Pflugerville.
In 1890 the entire population did not exceed 50 residents. However, by 1904 the railroad became accessible and began the increase in people living in Pflugerville. As of the 2020 census the population has grown to 65,191.
The demographics are as follows:
Pflugerville was founded in late 1849 and into early 1850. It was settled by a German immigrant by the name of Henry Pflugerville, Sr. who was honored to have the town named after him by William Bohls, the gentleman who established the first general store and post office in his home. Henry later purchased 960 acres from his brother-in-law for $960 and began farming the land, growing corn, wheat, rye, beans, sweet potatoes, and sugar cane. In 1904 the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad finished connecting Georgetown and Austin and the community gained ground although there were still only 580 residents by 1930. The 1960s brought major development to Pflugerville making it one of the fastest-growing Texas cities. It was incorporated in 1965.
Due to planned community development and the opening of major highways such as Highway 130 and State Highway 45 the city gained better access attracting well-known businesses to Pflugerville. Companies such as Target, Best Buy, Home Depot, and others are represented here. The two largest retailers are Albertson grocery and H-E-B grocery. In 2020 Amazon constructed a distribution center in the city and pledged to invest 250 million dollars in economic development. Covid-19 brought in hundreds of jobs to the area when Curative, Inc began a site to process Covid test results.

Texas, like many states in the U.S., has a deregulated energy market. Meaning, the market allows energy users to choose who supplies their electricity. Your energy will rely on two parties — your utility and provider. The local utility is Oncor Electric in Dallas, and this company handles power line maintenance and electricity distribution in your area. Your provider, often called a Retail Electric Provider (REP), supplies the electricity Oncor distributes.
Here is a map of Oncor’s service territory in Texas along with the major cities it covers. As you can see, both Dallas and Fort Worth are within the Oncor territory:
