North Richland Hills is located in Tarrant County, Texas in the Dallas area. It is the third-largest city in the county. Additionally, the city has a total area of 18.2 square miles.
The city began with the agreement of W.S. Peters to bring 600 families in the following three years as part of a land grant. These families began arriving in 1848. The following year, Tarrant County was established and named after General Edward H. Tarrant. The first hundred years of the city were mostly agriculturally dominant, due to rural farming and ranching.
The North Richland Hills Fire Department is a local service, which serves to combat large, uncontrollable fires. It also offers an EMS service, and serves to aid in medical emergencies as well. Their employees include firefighters as well as paramedics. This department is known as a, “Best Practices” department, according to the Texas Fire Chiefs Association.
North Richland Hills is home to Texas’ largest Ford dealership, comprised of more than 250 employees. Additionally, the largest current employer is Santander Consumer USA with 1,650 employees. Other large employers in the city include Medical City North Hills, HealthMarkets, Stericycle, Tyson Prepared Foods, XPO Logistics, and Smurfit Kappa Bates Container.
