Jersey Central Power and Light
Jersey Central Power And Light.
Jersey Central Power & Light Co.
Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L) serves over 1.1 million customers in northern and central New Jersey. It’s one of 10 of First Energy’s subsidiaries in the country, and it relies on a portion of the corporation’s 269,000 miles of distribution lines.
JCP&L formed from a merger with GPU Inc., a company based in Morristown, New Jersey, in 2001. At this point, First Energy had a 24,000-square-mile service area with its two Pennsylvania companies and its New Jersey entity. As one of four trusted energy utilities in New Jersey, JCP&L continually provides safe, reliable service to its consumers.
Utilities Vs. Suppliers
As a utility, Jersey Central Power and Light distribute energy to homes and businesses in its service area. If you live or run a business in this territory, JCP&L is your point of contact for energy emergencies like outages and fallen power lines.
Suppliers provide the energy that utilities transmit and distribute. As a consumer, you get to choose your supplier. New Jersey’s deregulated energy market allows this freedom because suppliers are competing for business. Every supplier offers a different rate, and choosing a new one can help you save on your energy bill.
The JCP&L Price to Compare is a default variable rate that changes throughout the year. You’ll pay this price if you haven’t committed to an alternate energy supply, and it can help you determine if a supplier is offering a reasonable rate.
