About Penn Power

Penn Power is located in western Pennsylvania owned by its parent company, FirstEnergy. The FirstEnergy Corporation owns nine other companies spanning Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, West Virginia and Maryland, and it serves over 6 million customers. Penn Power distributes electricity to more than 160,000 homes and businesses in Pennsylvania. It operates on a portion of FirstEnergy’s 24,500 miles of transmission lines.

What's the Difference Between a Utility and a Supplier?

If you live in the Penn Power service area, they’re responsible for getting the electric to your home or business. Suppliers, or Retail Electric Providers (REPs), supply the electric that Penn Power sends to the end user. Pennsylvania’s deregulated energy market allows utility customers to choose a supplier in their service area for energy supply.

Utilities like Penn Power will maintain power lines and restore and outages, no matter who is your REP. Your REP will set the rate you pay for electric.

Price To Compare in Penn Power

In Pennsylvania, Penn Power will provide a default rate if you do not choose a supplier for yourself. These default rates are called the Price to Compare (PTC) per kilowatt-hour (kWh). The PTC is based on what your utility pays for significant amounts of energy from the wholesale energy market, which means you’re likely not paying the lowest rate in the market. The PTC differs for residential and commercial customers.
