About PPL Electric

PPL Electric Utilities (originally Pennsylvania Power & Light) serves over 1.4 million Pennsylvanians in 29 counties. They maintain over 50,000 miles of power lines in the state, and they’ve also earned awards from J.D. Power and Associates for their committed service to residents and business owners. PPL Electric Utilities has been in business since 1920, and with 100 years of experience, they have the skills to maintain electricity to neighborhoods in central and eastern Pennsylvania.

The Difference Between PPL and a Supplier

PPL Electric Utilities is a utility company in Pennsylvania, making them in charge of electric delivery in their area. Retail Electric Providers (REPs) also known as suppliers provide the power to the utility to distribute. Since Pennsylvania has a deregulated energy market which means utility customers have the option to choose the supplier for their electricity.

While PPL energy services will handle your electrical concerns like outages and power line issues, your supplier will affect the rate you pay for the actual energy. In Pennsylvania, PPL Electric Utilities will provide a default rate, known as the Price to Compare (PTC) per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

If you do not opt in to switch to a supplier, the PTC is the cost PPL will charge you, and it’s based on what they pay for large amounts of energy on the wholesale market.

PPL Price To Compare

The PPL Electric Utilities Price To Compare changes for residential and commercial customers twice per year, once in June and once in December. The current PPL Price To Compare for 06/01/2022 – 11/30/2022 is 12.366¢/kWh for Residential Customers and 11.695¢/kWh for Business Customers. Below is a chart of PPL’s historical Price To Compare:
