About Frisco, Texas

Location

Frisco is located in both Collin County and Denton County. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. It is 25 miles from Dallas’ Love Field and the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. In 2017, Frisco was the fastest-growing city in the United States. In the late 1990s, the northern DFW suburban development growth hit the northern border of Plano, Texas, and overflowed into Frisco, sparking rapid growth into the 2000s. It still continues to grow today.

History

When the Dallas area was being settled by American pioneers in the 1880s, many new settlers arrived by wagons along the Shawnee Trail. This trail became the Preston Trail, and later Preston Road. As a result, the community of Lebanon was founded along this trail and was granted a U.S. post office in 1860. In 1904, city residents named the city Frisco City to honor the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway, which was later shortened to Frisco.

Frisco Electric Utility Company Resources

Texas, like many states in the U.S., has a deregulated energy market. Meaning, the market allows energy users to choose who supplies their electricity. Your energy will rely on two parties — your utility and provider. The local utility is Oncor Electric in Dallas and the Frisco area, and this company handles power line maintenance and electricity distribution in your area. Your provider, often called a Retail Electric Provider (REP), supplies the electricity Oncor distributes.

Here is a map of Oncor’s service territory in Texas along with the major cities it covers. As you can see, both Dallas and Fort Worth are within the Oncor territory:
