About Frisco, Texas

Frisco is located in both Collin County and Denton County. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. It is 25 miles from Dallas’ Love Field and the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. In 2017, Frisco was the fastest-growing city in the United States. In the late 1990s, the northern DFW suburban development growth hit the northern border of Plano, Texas, and overflowed into Frisco, sparking rapid growth into the 2000s. It still continues to grow today.

When the Dallas area was being settled by American pioneers in the 1880s, many new settlers arrived by wagons along the Shawnee Trail. This trail became the Preston Trail, and later Preston Road. As a result, the community of Lebanon was founded along this trail and was granted a U.S. post office in 1860. In 1904, city residents named the city Frisco City to honor the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway, which was later shortened to Frisco.

Frisco is in the DFW Metroplex. The large city has an area of 62.4 square miles. As of the 2020 United States Census, there were 200,509 people, 64,151 households, and 48,519 families residing in the city, up from 2010’s census of 116,989.

Frisco is home to many retail properties such as the Stonebriar Centre, a large mall. The Star, which is the Dallas Cowboys headquarters, is also located within the city limits. Frisco Square is also a mixed-use location in downtown Frisco with many residential units, restaurants, and shops. The largest employer is the Frisco Independent School district with over 7,000 employees followed by the City of Frisco and Conifer Health Solutions.

Culture & Recreation

Frisco is home to the Museum of the American Railroad. Closely located is also the Discovery center, which has an art gallery, theatre, and the National Videogame Museum. Frisco Square also hosts many events annually including Arts in the Square, Music in the Square, and others. Frisco is also home to many sports venues and team headquarters, including the NCAA Division I headquarters. Lastly, the Frisco Athletic Center has 18,000 square feet of indoor aquatic elements and 40,000 square feet of outdoor elements including exercise equipment, basketball courts, and many group classes.

Frisco Electric Utility Company Resources

Texas, like many states in the U.S., has a deregulated energy market. Meaning, the market allows energy users to choose who supplies their electricity. Your energy will rely on two parties — your utility and provider. The local utility is Oncor Electric in Dallas and the Frisco area, and this company handles power line maintenance and electricity distribution in your area. Your provider, often called a Retail Electric Provider (REP), supplies the electricity Oncor distributes.

Here is a map of Oncor’s service territory in Texas along with the major cities it covers. As you can see, both Dallas and Fort Worth are within the Oncor territory:
